Upon her initial visit, Roberts saw the cabinets in the living room and immediately thought, “I can place all my books there.” The doors at that time were inset with chicken wire, making everything on the shelves visible. Pierce and Ward transformed the open wire to solid caning, creating a sophisticated neutral background for the room. This alteration allows Roberts to continue collecting various mismatched paperbacks without the need to style them. Displayed on nearby open shelves are many of her cherished vintage editions, enhancing the cozy atmosphere and contributing to the literary ambiance.
It’s evident that a reader resides here. Since 2017, Roberts and her best friend Karah Preiss have co-hosted the popular Belletrist book club, and in 2019, they established Belletrist Productions, which has produced two television series (First Kill on Netflix and Tell Me Lies on Hulu). In her role, Roberts frequently reads multiple books simultaneously.
In his room, Rhodes has his mini library along with his first “big boy bed.” The ceiling features Mulberry Home wallpaper showcasing flying ducks because, as Roberts explains, “I recall as a child, whatever is on your walls and ceiling stays with you forever. I wanted to make it extra cozy and fun without being overwhelming.”
Referring to the primary bath as her “happy place,” Roberts describes it as where her son prepares for bed and where she enjoys soaking with a good book. Currently, she is engrossed in an advanced copy of The Coin by Yasmin Zaher, set to release in July. Roberts recently completed The Shards by Bret Easton Ellis, which she highly recommends, and After Henry, a 1992 essay collection by her literary idol Joan Didion, bought from Womb House Books on Etsy. This was Didion’s final book on Roberts’s reading list, as she wanted to preserve one unread. Adjacent to the tub is a repurposed bar cart, now storing Roberts’s favorite candles, bath salts, and Rhodes’s bath toys.
