Top 16 Mattresses of 2024: Comprehensive Testing and Review

Posted on August 29, 2024 By Ashley Zlatopolsky No Comments on Top 16 Mattresses of 2024: Comprehensive Testing and Review

There are pros and cons to both buying a mattress in-store and online. When you purchase a mattress in-store, you have the advantage of being able to test it out firsthand before making a decision, which is important given the cost of most mattresses. However, trying out a mattress for a few minutes may not always give you a complete sense of its comfort level.

Shopping in-store may also lead to better deals, especially if you negotiate with a salesperson or bundle your purchase with other sleep accessories. You might even get free delivery and removal of your old mattress, which can be a hassle to dispose of on your own.

On the other hand, buying online is convenient with one-click purchasing and no pressure from salespeople. However, you won’t be able to physically test the mattress before buying it, and returning a bulky item like a mattress can be a hassle. But shopping during major sale events like Memorial Day, Labor Day, and Black Friday/Cyber Monday can lead to great deals on online mattresses.

Types of Mattresses

There are four main types of mattresses available for sale:

  1. Hybrid mattresses: combine a coil system with foam or natural fibers.
  2. Memory foam mattresses: contour to your body shape and provide pressure relief, without a coil system.
  3. Latex mattresses: made from natural or synthetic latex, hypoallergenic and durable.
  4. Innerspring mattresses: supported by coils with a softer material on top, such as foam or fiber.

FAQs

What mattress brand is considered the best?

There is no universal best mattress brand, but popular options include Saatva, Helix, Casper, Tempur-Pedic, Sealy, and Beautyrest. The best brand for you depends on your sleeping position, comfort preferences, style, and budget.

When is the best time to buy a mattress?

Deep discounts on mattresses are typically offered during Memorial Day and Cyber Weekend in spring and late fall. Other mattress sales often occur around July 4th and Labor Day.

How much should you spend on a mattress?

The average queen-size mattress costs $1,500 to $2,000, while luxury options can exceed $2,000. Investing in a high-quality mattress can be worth the cost.

How long should a mattress last?

Mattresses usually last 10 to 12 years. Maintaining and cleaning your mattress regularly can extend its lifespan.

Do I need a hybrid or memory foam mattress?

Memory foam is great for pressure relief and contouring, while hybrid mattresses offer better temperature regulation and buoyancy for sleepers who move around. Choose based on your sleep style and preferences.
